How to Deal With Stress When You Have Cancer

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Submitted By: James S. Pendergraft

It is the diagnosis that nobody wants to hear. Despite all the advancements the field of medical science has made especially in the treatment and cure of cancer, cancer as a diagnosis is dreaded by all people alike. Cancers are of many kinds and they affect many parts of the body. Some cancers are found predominantly in women while others like prostate cancer are exclusively found in men.

Cancer can be extremely stress inducing. Stress is a state of physical or mental unrest. Stress is the condition when you find things not going your way and worrying and anxiously pondering over the situation again and again adds to the tension. Any illness can lead to stress and also stress can lead to many other illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, depression and even cancer.

Cancer has become very much treatable today and there are many individuals who have survived the once fatal disease. Having cancer can cause people to become depressed due to the thoughts of death and mortality which become very active in their subconscious. Depression if not checked can lead to further stress. Another stressful thought caused by cancer is the thought of the mounting medical bills. Chemotherapy and radiation sessions are not inexpensive. Add this to the hospital, medication and doctor’s costs and you have a huge medical bill in front of you. Your medical insurance many not cover all of these expenses and it could all lead to a drain on your finances. Worrying about depleting finances can lead to stress and other negative conditions.

It is important to keep a check on stress because untreated stress can lead to many other health complications. There are ways to tackle the stress which an illness brings on. It is important to stay in a positive frame of mind and in a cheerful demeanor. It is definitely not easy when one is undergoing treatment for a possibly fatal disease but at least that effort should be made. The treatment of cancer or any other life threatening condition becomes faster and quicker when a positive attitude is maintained.

In order to stay in a positive mind frame one can join a cancer group where patients with cancer or cancer survivors meet and speak about their battles or victories. These real life stories can be inspiring and can give one the determination and courage to go through the treatment. Another way to beat the stress is to read awe inspiring books about people who have beat the odds and come out victorious.

Taking the effort to make those little lifestyle changes while undergoing treatment for cancer can make the recovery faster and smoother. You can change your diet and increase the intake of fresh fruits, leafy green vegetables, and mineral and protein rich foods and anti oxidants rich foods like green tea for instance. The body becomes strongest and gains immunity which in turn is good for the treatment of cancer.

No matter what kind of cancer one has acquired, treatment and cure are not impossible if every sincere effort is taken along with constant prayers to God.

Don’t Worry Your Needs Are Supplied

Don’t Worry? Your Needs Are Supplied

By: Pastor Reinhard Westphal

God needs your needs to supply your needs. The Apostle Paul makes this absolute fantastic statement: “My God shall supply ALL your needs!” That was not Paul’s wishful thinking. No! That statement was inspired by the Holy Spirit himself. I hope you believe that.

The question is: How does the Lord supply your needs? Just think about this: ‘God needs your needs to supply your needs!’ If everything in your life would be perfect. Why would you need God?
But when everything around you falls apart, when you are loosing your job, when your marriage is about to fail – then it becomes evident that you need a God who is able and willing to supply all your needs according to His riches in glory!

You see, that is why God sometimes allows the circumstances in you life to get out of control in order for you to experience and know Him as the one who is in control at all times. And that my dear friend’s is a wonderful blessing.

Why is it then that so many of us Christians are so often worried and full of anxiety? Because we are trying to control and manage our life’s ourselves. We think that we are able to meet our different needs with our own resources. For instance, when we are broke, we find ways to borrow money only to find out that we are digging ourselves even a bigger hole. We are falling more and more behind with our bills and payments.

And instead of trusting in God, who promises that He will supply all of our needs we try to do it ourselves. And what is the result? We worry ourselves to death, we become miserable, anxious and depressed. But God says to you: ‘Don’t worry, rejoyce! I am at work in your life!’ He says: ‘Let me prove to you that I am in control! Let me show you that I am more than able to supply all of your needs! I am the Lord your provider!’

My challenge and that of the Holy Spirit to you and me today is this:
When God allows a need to come into your life, even if he takes something away from you , when your comfort zone falls apart – please, don’t get angry or rebellious but understand that the Lord is in the process of doing something marvellous and very special in your life.

  1. He wants to draw you closer to himself
  2. He wants to bring you into a position of trust
  3. And he is about to reveal himself to you as the one who is in control and as the Lord Jehowah-Jireh. The Lord your provider.

And that my dear friend’s is a wonderful blessing.

Let me take this even a step further. Have you ever prayed for something and God answered your prayers and granted your request? But then, all of a sudden thinks changed. The things that you received from him seem to disappear again? You don’t understand and you are confused?
Why does that sometimes happen in our life? Is there a way out of this circle of being happy one day and then worried out of your mind the next day?

In the Bible we find a wonderful teaching on this subject. Abraham, whom the scriptures calls the father of our faith, experienced this in a way we can not even imagine. This chapter in his life was so out of this world but it made him who his is to this day: the father of faith.
I would be more than happy to share this teaching with you. It will change your life forever. You’ll find the link to the audio file in My Spiritual Support Newsletter.

Black Empowerment Comes From Within

Since the first African slaves arrived on the shores of America, Black empowerment has always depended on the strength of Black Americans to succeed despite the obstacles they were forced to overcome.

When many Black politicians gained political power during Reconstruction, organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan emerged to thwart any dreams of Black empowerment that the recently freed slaves envisioned. And when towns such as a Tulsa, Oklahoma developed a strong Black economy through their own entrepreneurial spirit, efforts of Black empowerment were again killed and dreams destroyed.

However, as the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakahn recently stated in a speech, in the 21st century Black empowerment is totally in the hands of the Black community and no other group or individual holds power over our dreams, besides us.

“Today you can’t blame the White man for where you are, you are where you are because that’s where you want to be,” stated the Nation of Islam leader. “But if you got your own foot out of your own way, no White man in the heavens above or the earth beneath could stop you from achieving what God wants for you.”

In a year where America saw its first Black president inaugurated, the source of pride in that historical moment should be the inspiration that this generation needs to take Black America to levels our ancestors could only dream of.

However, as H. Lewis Smith, founder and president of the United Voices for a Common Cause, Inc. once stated, Black Americans do not have to just look at our history in this country for inspiration and proof that we come from greatness, we also can trace our greatness back to ancient times when people with brown faces made significant contributions to early civilizations.

As scholar Carter G. Woodson wrote in The Mis-Education of the Negro, “We say hold on to the real facts of history as they are, but complete knowledge by studying also the history of races and nations which have been [purposely ignored]. We should not underrate the achievements of Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome; but we should give [equally] as much attention to the internal African kingdoms, the Songhay Empire and Ethiopia, which through Egypt decidedly influenced the civilization of the Mediterranean world.”

From the earliest civilizations Blacks were innovators who assisted other ethnic groups by helping advance society, such as the Black Moor’s civilization, who with the Arabs, aided the Europeans in their freedom from the Dark Ages.

If young Black Americans knew all of their history, it would create a pride and passion for greatness that we have unfortunately not seen, even after the historic election of President Barack Obama. The love we would have for the Black community would eradicate the use of the N-word amongst our people; it would lower the number of Black-on-Black crimes and it would inspire greatness in the classroom and beyond.

Therefore, true Black empowerment will come when the Black community realizes that the real power is within them and no one can hold any power over them unless they relinquish that God-given power.

Using The Sex Offender Registry

How do you know if there are sex offenders living next door? Every day there are stories of sex offenders in the news, but few people realize that convicted sex offenders may actually live in their neighborhood. You may assume that you’d need to be notified if this was the case, but in actuality, you may never find out that there’s a sex offender living next door to your young children. Some say that today’s parents are too overprotective, and while some may be, there are still some things every parents should know in order to protect their children. It’s always a good idea to know of any criminals living nearby, even if your children know not to talk to strangers.

How well do you really know your neighbors? How many times have watched a news story where you heard their neighbor say “He seemed like such a nice, quiet guy. I can’t believe he would do something like this”. Sound familiar? The only way to know for sure about sex offenders is to check the national sex offender list. Find the sex offenders in your neighborhood now, before it is too late.

A sex offender is someone who has been criminally charged with, and convicted of, a crime of a sexual nature against a victim. Crimes for which registration as a sex offender is required range from sexual assault to possession of child pornography. There are over 500,000 registered sex offenders in the United States, with over half of the victims being under 12 years old. You should be concerned for your family’s safety when you consider these shocking statistics.

Fortunately, there is a way to know if you are living near a registered sex offender. In order to find sex offenders, start with the government’s free search. Sex offenders are required by law to register their address with the government. Each of the 50 states has an online registry website that is free to search. It will pinpoint sex offenders on a map of your area. You may find that there are sex offenders living right on your street, perhaps less than a block from your home. These search results show the offender’s address, crime, and usually a photo.

In addition to searching for sex offenders living near you, you can also use the government’s free search to look up the names of new neighbors, potential babysitters, or anyone else whose full name you know. The truth is that you never know if someone you’ve met is a sex offender unless you look for their name in the national search. Although you probably don’t want to think about the possibility of sex offenders interacting with you and your family, the possibility is there.

Whether you find sex offenders living in your neighborhood or not, it is crucial to remind your family members that anyone they meet could potentially be dangerous. Although it’s now easier than ever to find sex offenders if you know where to look, the absence of registered sex offenders does not mean that everyone in your neighborhood is harmless. The sex offender registry is just one tool in your arsenal, helping to keep you and your family safe from harm.
